Game Play
Once all players have filled their card trays, they then take turns drawing cards from the deck, OR take the top face-up card from any one of the three discard piles. Players then have the choice of either replacing a card in their tray with the new card or discarding it to one of the discard piles.
The next step is to make "Connections". A connection is created when you play one state card next to another state card that shares a border with it on the map, OR when you place an airplane card between two states of the same color. An added feature is that Players may also skip a state in their journey by playing a "Vancard", which serves as a "Wild card".
As mentioned earlier, you have to travel the country by jet, car, and on foot, based upon the cards you have or draw from the stack. The first player to complete a contiguous 10-day journey wins the game.
Consumer Hands-On Evaluation
10 DAYS in the USA proved to be a most interesting experience while playing the game with passengers on an Amtrak train. As a matter of fact, The Toy Man even got beat by the same person in 3 consecutive games!
"Nothing like playing 10 DAYS in the USA on an Amtrak train, traveling from Los Angeles, CA to NYC in the observation car!"
In our studying the players participating in the consumer hands-on evaluation segment, it became interesting how there was a consistent event that occurs with every single game. Players learned new details they never knew before about states and borders.
As players learned new details about the states with each game, they developed a better level of strategy with every game that followed. That in turn contributed to better self-esteem, interactive social skill development and cognitive skill refinement.
There was no question that 10 DAYS in the USA easily passed this segment of our evaluation. We strongly believe based upon our consumer response that buyers will find this game well worth the purchase.
STEM and STEAM Value Consideration
10 DAYS in the USA is a STEM-focused board game that develops spatial reasoning, logical planning, and geographical knowledge. Based upon our structured analysis it is also considered an educational, family-friendly geography board game, making it a strong fit for STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) curricula, specifically Geography and Logistics.
After careful review and validation, we have established that 10 DAYS in the USA meets the criteria to be recognized for both The Toy Man® STEM and STEAM Awards.
